Nepal Premier League generates excitement and buzz aplenty


The highly  anticipated second edition of the Nepal Premier League Twenty20 franchise cricket league is all set to start on November 17th in Kathmandu.


As the competition draws closer, excitement  and fervency amongst  fans is mounting by the day to unprecedented  heights in the cricket crazy country of Nepal. In other words, the craze for the game is overwhelming.


Fans are expected to  turn out  in big numbers and cram the stadium to witness the exciting and nerve-wracking sporting spectacle.There is bound to  be an exuberant festival  like atmosphere. 


Eight franchise-based  teams from across the country  are competing in the country’s biggest and unrivaled cricket league  organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).


The round-robin,followed by playoffs competition, will bring together the country’s best talent and  a  significant number of international stars who have made a name for themselves in international cricket.


Each team  roster is expected to be a mix of current national players,young  bubbling  talented blood and foreign recruits.


The teams have roped in  players  from Australia, New Zealand,England, South Africa, Pakistan, Afghanistan,United States of America, Namibia, Scotland,Netherlands,West Indies, Uganda and Italy.


The tournament gets underway with the opener  between defending champions Janakpur Bolts and Kathmandu Gurkhas. 


The competition will go global  as Star  Sports  will broadcast every  match live,bringing  cricket  aficionados  around the globe close to the game.


The venue for the  three weeks plus long tournament is  the  highly impressive new look Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.


The completion of the first phase of upgrade and renovation of the ground  boasts of 10,000  seats and  six floodlights.


For the first time spectators will be able to watch matches well into the evening under floodlights. 


By the time the third and last phase is completed the final  capacity of the ground  is expected to be 30,000.


The tournament of this stature and magnitude is bound to further enhance, promote and grow cricket in the country .


It is a perfect and ideal platform  and provides the much needed  exposure, motivation  and encouragement to  young upcoming talented home players who are trying to break into the  national team.


It enables them to make the most of the opportunity to showcase their skills and draw national selectors attention,


Keeping that in mind, they have to play their hearts out,putting utmost commitment and everything they have into the performance.


Let us hope that the tournament is  professionally managed and run,and , more importantly, unlike the first edition, is totally free of controversies.
