Nepal fly high in Namibia

The good news is that Nepal is one step away from playing in the 2019 ICC World Cup  Cricket in Wales and England, after finishing runners up behind the United Arab Emirates in the ICC World League Championship Division Two qualifiers in Namibia. The United Arab Emirates narrowly avenged their earlier defeat  with a seven run victory over Nepal to win the final. Hoisting the trophy would  have been a fitting finish for Nepal.  Never mind, we should all take heart from the fact that they did their  very best and  earned a ticket to Zimbabwe. The result is a big accomplishment in itself. Kudos to the entire team. They fought  their way back from  the brink  to a second place finish. It was the result of tireless efforts of players and individual brilliance. We are absolutely thrilled  with the outcome, and we could not have asked for more. Upcoming leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane capped a brilliant  performance, earning a feather in his cap by winning player of the  series. He e

Batting key to Nepal's success

Team Nepal is back in contention, following back to back wins in the ICC World Cricket League Division Two qualifiers in Namibia. I feel very relieved for  die hard fans, who have been enduring frustration and disappointment for a  considerable period of time. At least, for now the gloom has been lifted  and the smile is back on their faces. After a well deserved win over the United Arab Emirates, Nepal  got the better of Kenya in a nail biting finish in as many days, vaulting into second place in the standings. Although table leaders Canada and Nepal have the same number of points(6),Canada is at the top by virtue of a better net run rate. It has been a dramatic turnaround in Nepal’s fortunes, and things are looking up. They  are well positioned and have taken one giant step toward the final qualifiers in Zimbabwe after their latest success. As a matter of fact ,Nepal did get the early momentum only to squander , however, wrested back successfully. Now it is imperative t

Nepal’s batting nightmare continues

With one win and one loss Nepal is in a precarious position in the ICC  World League championship Division 2 qualifiers in Namibia. Despite a promising start and a big opportunity,Nepal badly stumbled and failed to consolidate their position in the competition going down meekly in the second match. The  six wicket defeat at the hands of Oman was unexpected  and a huge disappointment . The setback has considerably reduced Nepal’s chances to make it to the final qualifier round in Zimbabwe. When all said and done, this defeat could prove to be a turning point in the fortunes of Team Nepal at the end of the day. Of course, they are not yet out of the race but have brought upon themselves big time pressure. Now that the odds are heavily stacked against  them, they are under intense pressure and must find a way to turn things around. The fact of the matter is that Nepal must win all their remaining matches convincingly. We all can agree that  it is a tall order for a team that

Real Test awaits Nepal in Namibia

The national cricket team of Nepal   hopes  to rebound but faces a daunting challenge  going into the new season, following a bitterly dismal twelve months of  competitive cricket. It is obvious that unless they overcome mediocrity and turn things around pretty quickly, they are doomed to fail in 2018 . Sorry for being such a pessimist. It is as simple as that. The real test awaits Nepal in Namibia as they gear up for the all important ICC World Cricket League B Division. This is one big  opportunity to salvage some pride, especially after an unproductive  2017. Much work remains to be done, and it is a tough road ahead without a doubt. The  relegation to  ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division Two was/is a crushing blow.   It is time to stop the slide and get back on the right track. As they say, desperate times call for desperate measures. There is plenty at stake in the six team competition. The battle  is for the final two spots  for a place in the ICC World Cup
