Big test awaits Team Nepal at AFC qualifiers

The Group “A “ 2018 Asian Football Confederation Under-19 Championship qualifiers kicks off Tuesday in Bishkek,Kyrgyzstan. Team Nepal is in the fray vying for one of the 16 spots to play in the final round taking place in Indonesia. Going into the competition, certainly, they wear the underdog tag and have a mountain  to climb. They will have to play   positive, aggressive and  free flowing  football to have any realistic chance and prove their critics  wrong The only real big question is, will they spring a few surprises ? It is a sport, therefore,we  cannot prematurely rule out that possibility. Besides, it is a talent packed  squad, however, talent alone is not enough to  succeed. When all's said and done, all that really matters is a solid, consistent field performance and delivering  the desired results. Also  it is equally important that players perform up to the mark and live up to their potential. Common sense tells us that they have to put their hearts and s

ANFA is a pathetic political club

Misery, humiliation, agony continues to pile up for the national football team of Nepal in international football. It has been much the same story for  Team Nepal lately. Another match, resulting in another failure. What a disappointment ! The most recent  setback against Tajikistan in the 2019 Asian Football Confederation Asia Cup qualifiers in Dushanbe, Tajikistan speaks volumes about the  dire straits of  Nepal football. Once again, Nepal faltered badly  and was comprehensibly beaten by the host. Contrary to expectations, they put up a  sloppy performance  marked by repeated  defensive lapses and mediocrity and  paid dearly for it at the end. There hardly was a moment in the match, the visitors stood out and looked threatening. It was a familiar sight- they struggled to work as a unit, lacked pace and physical presence to match the home side that  dominated the proceedings and enjoyed territorial advantage for the most part. To put it short,  they underperformed and

Nepal aims to salvage some pride against Tajikistan

The stake is very high for the national football team of Nepal as they gear up for the all important away fixture against Tajikistan in the 2019 Asian Football Confederation Asia Cup qualifiers. Things are looking increasingly grim for Nepal at the moment. Apparently, players are under enormous pressure to shrug off their lethargy, find some kind of form, perform well and deliver the desired result, but that is easier said and done. The math is straight and simple. A win is a must for Japanese Coach Koji Gyotoku boys who are languishing at the bottom of the group as the situation demands. They find themselves in a make or break situation and are desperate to salvage some pride against host Tajikistan. One thing is very clear, they cannot afford to concede the match.Otherwise, they exit the competition. Already they have paid a heavy price for their mediocrity and failure to capitalize home advantages against Yemen and Tajikistan. Although Team Nepal is in a relativ

Nepal’s Under-18 success brings a ray of hope

Much to everyone's  delight,Nepal’s Under-18 footballers did themselves proud by cornering glory at the recently concluded South Asian Federation Football Championship in Thimphu, Bhutan.    My congratulations to players and coaching staff for the great result. The fact of the matter is, they successfully defended the title, once again, proving they are the best and the team to beat in the region, at least. The youngsters earned success the hard way. They had to work incredibly hard to defy odds, especially after a shock defeat at the hands of Bhutan in the opener. Despite getting off to a rocky start, they managed to bounce back and come through with flying colors at the end of the day. In fact, they refused to surrender, fighting to the bitter end and  registered three straight must wins to emerge champions. It was  encouraging to see the youngsters regroup, rejuvenate, re energize and get their act together. More than anything, they did not buckle under pressure and de
