Kudos to Under-23 Team for winning Bangabandhu Gold Cup

Nepal has finally won an international football tournament, ending a 23-year drought.  Coincidentally, it was in the same soil, but different venue Nepal triumphed   against India in the famous final of the 1993 South Asian Federation Games. It is a remarkable achievement by the youthful under-23 squad.   I congratulate the team and the entire coaching staff for winning the tournament. You have made us all proud. Great job, keep it up. Against a physically formidable Bahrain, Nepal produced a strong performance and registered an emphatic 3-0 victory to annex the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament in Dacca, Bangladesh Further more, Nepal was the only team to finish the competition undefeated.   It was a performance par excellence crowned by a successful championship.   This accomplishment can be attributed to    a combination of    a superb collective effort and individual brilliance. The young lads displayed terrific energy, commitment, tenacity,

The only saving grace in 2015 was Under-19 's superb performance

Nepali cricket did not turn out to be rosy as anticipated by cricket aficionados across the country in 2015. By and large, it was a year riddled with setbacks, disappointments, frustration, triumph, politics, controversies, infighting and anguish. National Team’s debacle The national side in particular was a huge disappointment in terms of performance. They competed in several big time international tournaments only to disappoint. Contrary to expectations, it was quite a struggle for the senior side.   Despite the experience and an abundance of talent, they were bogged down by mediocrity, inconsistency and sloppiness.   They failed to come to terms with the high level of cricket, recapture the mojo and get back to winning ways. Nepal competed in the World Cup League Division Two held in Namibia, however, failed to make the most out of their opportunities. Although they bounced back after losing the opener but faltered in two of their crucial matches, losing

National Sports Council, Sports Ministry: Barking dogs that never bite

All Nepal Football Association headed by acting president Narendra Shrestha has slipped further into abyss. The administration has completely failed to carry out their duties and responsibilities, thus adding to the woes of footballers across the country. They have become an embarrassing, sad and pathetic joke. We are seeing incompetence in the deplorable and unacceptable All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). The sad fact is that there is no end to incompetence at this administration, and they seem to have learned nothing from past mistakes. They don’t give a damn, what you and I think. As a consequence, they are frequently repeating the same mistakes over and over. I see no reason why we should be surprised. After all, they are self-serving, incompetent idiots who are merely extending Mr. Ganesh Thapa’s disastrous policies. Since Mr. Shrestha took over ANFA after the departure of Mr. Thapa, he has shown no leadership, vision, ability and grit to govern differently

2015: A tumultuous,scandalous,uncertain year for Nepal football

2015 was a dramatic, uncertain and tumultuous year for Nepali football. There was no dearth of action on and off the field. So many storylines emerged: attention grabbing, scandalous, heart-rending, celebratory, unforeseen, infuriating and captivating. I have plenty to choose from. At the same time, I find it hard to pick my newsmaker or news of the year. Disgraced Ganesh Thapa's exit The year’s biggest newsmaker was former President of All Nepal Football Association Ganesh Thapa, in my opinion. His fall from grace   after more than two decades   in power was, by far the biggest national news. There was ample international media coverage about his ouster, as well. Mr. Thapa’s  forced exit surprised many who believed that he could   save his job. He made frantic attempts to   rescue his tainted reputation and position but all in vain. On the home front, he  faced corruption and abuse of power charges brought   against him by agitating ANFA  office bearers.
