Nepali Football in peril as uncertainty lingers

The national football team’s struggle in international tournaments continues unabated much to the     frustration, chagrin of fans across the country.   The team’s debacle at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea was no surprise and is a sad reflection on the decline of football in Nepal.   Most recently, Philippines added more misery on Nepal by comprehensibly winning the      exhibition match 3-0 played in Qatar.   Legion of fans       are clearly sick and tired of the insipid showing, however, they have taken the setbacks sportingly and rallying around the team.   The      national team has been underperforming in every major international tournament, one after another, for a considerable     period of time. Everyone is aware that Nepali football has been stuck in mediocrity for long enough.   Honestly speaking, I don’t see them     making a      comeback sometime in the near future, not under the current situation, with so much uncertainties and

ANFA boss Ganesh Thapa’s fate still hangs in balance

Lately there has been   a flurry of action on and off the field despite the ominous air of uncertainties surrounding Nepal football. Apparently, suspended President of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Ganesh Thapa continues to overshadow national sporting headlines. The indomitable bulldog     ANFA Chief was finally brought to his knees, following FIFA’s decision to suspend him from office for four months. Prior to that he was suspended for two     months by the government on the recommendation of Public Accounts Commission that investigated him. As a matter of fact, he made a mockery of the government’s decision to suspend him. He decried, mocked and challenged the decision by the government to suspend him. He behaved as though nothing had happened. Mr.Thapa, as always surrounded by his loyalists, spoke with confidence and defiance to the media. He reiterated his innocence and     said that he would be returning to resume his duties as President of ANFA.

No end in sight to Nepali cricket problems

Another compelling success story for Nepal cricket, despite  the lamentable state of affairs. The recent glory cornered by the national team   came at the ICC World Cricket League Division Three in Kula Lumpur, Malaysia. Anything   else the cricketers and the coaching staff deserve high credit and praise for the  triumph. The cricketers’ commitment    to excellence and hard work    is a testament to their success. The latest success once again underlines our growing     potential on the pitch.More importantly and encouragingly, we are progressing   competition after competition. Much has been achieved under very challenging     circumstances over the years. This would not have been possible without    cricketers’     hard work, hard toil, dedication, and passionate and burning desire to excel and put Nepal cricket on an international platform. With the odds     stacked against them, we find it hard to believe they have accomplished so much. They have proven their endurance

FIFA’s love affair with Ganesh Thapa

After   much suspense and drama, President of All Nepal Football Association, Mr. Ganesh Thapa was finally forced out of office for two months while authorities investigate him for possible embezzlement of funds and abuse of office powers. Now the   big question: what’s next?   What happens in two months? There are   so many unanswered questions. First and foremost, has   the government initiated the investigation? No one really knows for sure. I have not heard the government   make an official announcement in regards to launching an investigation against Mr.Thapa.  Indeed, the public has the right to information. Honestly speaking, the picture remains as murky as ever. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the government anti-graft agency is suppose to start a full-scale investigation. That has not happened yet. There are clear grounds for   an investigation against Mr. Thapa. Keep in mind; he has been temporarily debarred from exercising
