A look back at 1st edition of Nepal Super League

The first edition of the franchise- based  Nepal Super League Football Championship  concluded in Kathmandu recently.  The tournament  was organized  and managed by Nepal Sports and Event Management(NSEM). Likewise,All Nepal Football Association( ANFA) handled the technical aspect of the competition. The historical NSL played in front of an empty Dashrath Stadium amids the raging COVID-19, unfortunately, will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. ANFA's decision to hold  the tournament showed blatant disregard for players and coaches health and safety. Furthermore, the competition was organised in the most  amateurish way and the teams faced nightmare fixtures.   Landmark Tournament Personally,I was thrilled  when I heard about the franchise- based Nepal Super League, the first of its kind in the history of Nepal football taking place. As a matter of fact, the entire football fraternity in the country had anticipated a tournament of this magnitude  and kind for decades. We are grate

Dhangadhi FC Vs Kathmandu Rayzrs FC:Nail-biter in the offing

Dhangadi FC and Kathmandu Rayzrs FC  will  battle it out for the Nepal Super League title at Dashrath stadium Saturday. Unsurprisingly Kathmandu Rayzrs FC outclassed a tired and jaded Lalitpur City FC in a dull and drab affair to earn a place in the final. The two sides face each other for the third time in the competition. Having  beaten Kathmandu Rayzrs FC two times, Dhangadi FC have given themselves a psychological edge over the opposition. Whether Dhangadi FC  completes a whitewash or third time’s the charm  for  Kathmandu Rayzrs, time will tell. Call it a  nail-biter or cliff- hanger is in the offing.  With four days of quality rest,Dhangadi FC  will go into the final, fresh ,fitter and ready to face Kathmandu Rayzrs FC. Dhangadhi FC must play free-flowing, attacking football throughout the match to put the opponent under constant pressure  and on the back foot. They have to maintain a high degree of intensity, consistency, pace and aggression  in their performance. The offense revol

Lalitpur City FC vs Kathmandu Rayzrs FC:Physically fitter & Mentally stronger prevails

s Red- hot Lalitpur City FC  stretched their winning streak to 3  games with a hard fought victory over Butwal Lumbini in the Nepal Super League at Dashrath stadium Wednesday. Lalitpur City  FC ‘s crucial  victory  earned them a showdown with Kathmandu Rayzrs FC for a place in the final taking place Thursday. The clash between the two attack oriented sides might not  rise to the level of our expectations. Do not be taken aback if  it  turns out  to be a low-key affair played  at  a leisurely pace. Both  outfits have been overwhelmed by the  exhaustive schedule.  I cannot stop repeating myself for the upteenth time when it comes to criticizing the Nepal Super League fixtures. Now the format of the competition comes into question, as well.It cannot get worse than this. Lalitpur City FC  find themselves having to play two matches  in two days sans rest unnder very challenging  circumstances. It defies logic. How can it be justified? Teams have been hit by a spate of injuries, and players ha

Evenly -matched contest : Lalitpur City FC vs Butwal Lumbini FC

Lalitpur City FC and Dhangadi FC face off in the elimination round of the Nepal Super League at Dashrath stadium Wednesday, The winner of the match will take on Kathmandu Rayzrs  FC for a place in the final. Dhangadi FC are through to the  final  after overcoming Kathmandu  Rayzrs FC 2-1 in overtime. The showdown between Butwal Lumbini FC  and Lalitpur City FC who have a similar play style should turn out to be another day of absorbing and thrilling football. Fresh off two successive wins, Lalitpur City FC confidence level is at an all time high in the competition.  Indeed they gallantly fought back from the brink of elimination to stay in the competition. The decimation of Biratnagar City FC in  a must  win game speaks volumes of their potential. They are fully aware that the ultimate prize is within their striking range. Now they feel the urgency to win back-to- back  matches to  make it three in a row as they gear up for the all important tie against Butwal Lumbini FC. They hope to r

Kathmandu Rayzrs FC vs Dhangadi FC:Anyone’s game

With plenty of drama, suspense and surprises, the ongoing Nepal Super League has  finally wound down to the knockout stage. Of the seven teams,Kathmandu Rayzrs FC ,  Dhangadhi FC, Lalitpur City FC and Butwal Lumbini FC  are in the last four. The four juggernauts will fight it out for the top honour. After a day’s break, action returns Tuesday at  Dashrath stadium, There is no question that teams have endured an unsparing, arduous, grinding and strenuous schedule, and it is taking its toll on them mentally and physically. Nonetheless, they have put up  a brave front. I feel very sorry for players and coaches for having to play under adverse and challenging circumstances. I'll repeat myself, All Nepal Football Association(ANFA) led by Mr.Karma Tsering Sherpa responsible for both scheduling the tournament and the punishing fixtures are a disgrace.  It is very clear that  ANFA doesn’t give a darn about players' well-being  and safety. All they care about is their own selfish interests.

Full of thrill, suspense & drama

Biratnagar City FC  and Lalitpur City FC  gear up for the crucial face off in the  Nepal Super League at Dashrath Stadium  in Kathmandu Saturday. With two  remaining playoff spots up for grabs, the outfits from Biratnagar and Lalitpur are locked in an intense battle for ascendancy. The victory achieved by Pokhara Thunders over FC Chitwan has  thrown the tournament wide open with  a new twist. It has  added intensity, suspense, spice, intrigue  and drama to Saturday’s fixtures. The million dollar question is,which way the pendulum will swing? I could not tell you right now. The setup is perfect for a day of compelling, nail biting, engrossing and action packed football. It is going to keep us on the edge of our seat from start to finish. Additional pressure has piled on Biratnagar City, Lalitpur City and  Butwal Lumbini, contenders  for playoffs. At this point, the picture is still murky and hard to say which two teams advances to the knockout stage, One thing  that we all  can agree on,

Pokhara Thunders FC vs FC Chitwan:Must win match for both

Pokhara Thunders FC face  FC  Chitwan  in what will be a clash of  the two bottom-placed teams in the Nepal Super League  at Dashrath  stadium  in Kathmandu Friday. Now it is clear that  four teams are battling for the  two remaining playoff spots. Dhangadi F C and Kathmandu Rayzrs FC are already  through to the playoffs. Pokhara Thunders with 5 points are second from the bottom, while FC Chitwan  are at the bottom with 2 points.  It  is a must win game for both sides.A goalless draw will not help either side, and the losing team exits from the competition.  This match  does have some relevancy and significance. As things stand,it is too early to say whether the  final outcome of the match will have any bearing or not  on  the current standings.   It would be fair to say that both sides are on the brink of elimination, and their playoff hopes hinge on the outcome of Friday and Saturday matches. Looking at Pokhara Thunders playoff chances, firstly they  must defeat FC Chitwan by a  health
