Nepal eye to finish on better note

After several months of hiatus, the national football team of Nepal is back in action. They face off Yemen in the 2019 Asian Federation Confederation Asian Cup Qualifiers in  Doha, Qatar. Nepal is languishing at the bottom of the standings in  Group F with  just 2 points.Since they have already exited the qualifiers, the final outing is inconsequential and merely academic. There is only the proverbial pride to play for. Definitely wrapping up the competition on a high note is very important for Team Nepal, especially to keep themselves motivated in pursuit of new goals and aspirations. They are under no pressure whatsoever and have a chance to make some amends. They will need to play with more energy, more enthusiasm and  more determination. Besides,it is very important  that they reach their optimal potential, perform consistently well and go all out for the win. Goal scoring has been the biggest problem for the team. In fact, they are mired in a scoring drought, havi

Change in leadership, direction needed at ANFA

After much uncertainties, lingering and dilly- dally, believe it or not,the All Nepal Football Association  election is finally  happening. The fact of the matter is that   the election is knocking on the door. Just like in every election cycle, there is plenty at stake for Nepal football this time, as well. The irony is that Nepal football has   not reaped benefits one   bit from   past elections. We have gone through numerous election cycles, sadly,   football landscape remains   more or less unchanged and things have gone from bad to worse. As a result, Nepal football   is in a sorry state of affairs to date. There has been no substantial development and progress made   over two decades, and   football continues to move in the wrong direction. Ex   Boss of All Nepal Football Association Ganesh Thapa who was at the helm of power for more than two decades   was/is   largely responsible for the mess in football. To be fair, he did some good work but was guilty of

Team Nepal makes history in Zimbabwe

A very big  congratulations to  Team Nepal for earning the One Day International Status. You deserved it. You have made yourselves and the country extremely proud. We are so proud of you.All your hard work , never give up attitude finally paid rich dividends, despite challenges   and adversity. It is a historical   accomplishment for   Nepal cricket, and we should relish and celebrate the moment. My congratulations to Skipper Paras Khadka and the entire   coaching staff   for their relentless effort in the pursuit   of greatness. From Namibia to Zimbabwe, it has been a roller coaster ride for the team with some high points and low points. They have managed to ride out the storm and has   come out as big winners at the end. They did not let up in their efforts till the last ball. We could not have asked for more. The achievement is huge and a milestone in the cricket   history of the country. It is a new dawn for cricket in Nepal and opens up new avenues and exciting po

Nepal has a realistic chance to beat Papua New Guinea

Nepal finally got their much sought after win, much to everyone’s relief in the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. The victory over Hong Kong   comes at a crucial juncture as Nepal vies   for the One Day International(ODI) Status spot. Having failed in their attempt to reach the Super Sixes, there is still plenty at stake for Nepal. The last ODI Status spot is up for grabs, and, undoubtedly, it is a very big prize. For a country like Nepal earning the ODI Status for four years   means   a lot.   If they succeed in getting it ,it will be a significant accomplishment, and they   will immensely benefit on all fronts of the sport. It means   Nepal will be eligible   for more fundings from the international cricket body for the development of cricket and gets to play more international competitions. Nepal has to battle it out for the play-off positions from 7th to 10th. Four teams,   the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Nepal and Papua New Guinea are in the play-offs. The Nethe

Nepal must aim to salvage pride against Hong Kong

There was no respite for Nepal as they succumbed to yet another defeat, the third in a row, at the hands of Afghanistan, putting themselves on the cusp of World Cup Qualifiers  exit in ZImbabwe.  At this point, Nepal has been left with a slim mathematical   chance to advance to the round of super sixes. They are languishing at the bottom of the table with the lowest net run -rate . As things stand, prospects for the team looks increasingly dim. Only an overwhelming and decisive victory over Hong Kong with   a very   healthy net run -rate enough to overtake both Hong Kong and Afghanistan in their final match can see them through to the next round. The target is statistically improbable, especially for Nepal that is underperforming and failing to meet expectations. That said, it is a sport and anything can/could happen. Let us keep our fingers crossed. For the second successive match Nepal won the toss but the decision to bat first backfired as they crashed to another d
