Image
The men’s national cricket team of Nepal makes its  Asia Cup One-  Day International debut against co-host  Pakistan in Multan,Pakistan on August 30th  in the opener of  the highly anticipated tournament. It may be recalled that the competition held every two years was switched to hybrid model  following India’s refusal to play in Pakistan. As a result, the 50- over  tournament  organized by the Asian Cricket Council is  being co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.  Of the total 13 matches, four will be held in Pakistan  and nine in Sri Lanka. The sixteenth edition championship features six teams India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan,Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal. Nepal  has been handed a very  tough group. They are in  Group A alongside  India and Pakistan, while defending champions Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh feature in Group B. The best two teams from each group advance to the Super Four round. The final is slated for September 17th  in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Since the start of Asia Cu

Samba’s incredible football journey from Simpani to Israel

I don’t  have a shred of doubt in my mind that  twenty six year old  Sabitra Bhandari  is  the biggest name in Nepal women’s football. The footballer’s meteoric rise to stardom has  been phenomenal, capturing the imagination of sports aficionados from across South Asia and beyond.  She has established herself  as one of the finest footballers in South Asia and become  a household name.  Born and raised in Simpani  village in Lamjung district,Bhandari is popularly known by her nickname Samba. Her  inspirational success story is all about believing in yourself to succeed in the face of  failure, obstacles and achieving  the impossible.   I bet  young  aspiring women footballers  across  the country  who have witnessed her struggle and  rise  to fame are motivated and encouraged to pursue their dreams  and goals with determination, grit and confidence. Samba has blossomed into a lethal striker over the  years. With 43 goals to her name, she overtook Anu Lama as the all time highest goal score

Nepal football stares at uncertain future

Unsurprisingly the men’s national football team of Nepal made a quick exit from the 14th edition of the South Asian Federation Football Championship in Bengaluru, India recently. Definitely the setback was a huge disappointment for the team and fans alike. With the  latest effort going in vain,Nepal’s frustration of not winning the South Asian Federation Football Championship (SAFFC) continues unabated. This time, however,Team Nepal went into the championship with low expectations as they clearly lacked match  readiness to make an impact. As a result, the odds were heavily stacked against them, and they  stood very  little chance of upsetting the apple cart. As a matter of fact, they were sans substantial match practice and underprepared for the tournament largely because of All Nepal Football Association’s (ANFA) gross mismanagement and incompetence. Would  you believe it,the less-than-perfect build up  for the championship was just a little  over a week, which included a solitary  friend

Cricket Association of Nepal root cause of problem

The men’s national cricket team of Nepal had flown into Zimbabwe to participate in the ICC World Cup Qualifier with high hopes and high expectations. The team had qualified to the competition, following a dramatic and spectacular bounce back from a precarious position ,capturing the hearts and minds of cricket afficinadoes across the globe. The performance was talk of the town.Indeed they performed in a such manner never seen before. It was a result of brilliant concerted and individual combination. Be it batting or bowling or fielding, they were at the top of their game.More importantly, they displayed a high degree of consistency, batted  and  bowled  solidly throughout. Batting has been Nepal’s achilles heel for the most part. However, the overall batting performance showed no chinks in the armor then. Team Nepal had the much needed momentum and confidence  going into the tournament. They were up against familiar opponents(except the West Indies) whom they had beaten in the past. They sto
