Nepali Youth footballers fail to make hay

Following the national football team’s puny performance   against Jordan in the World Cup  qualifiers ,  football goers attention quickly  shifted  to the First  SAFF Under-16  Championship  held  in Kathmandu. Vexed   and fed up with   the   senior team’s   lackadaisical   performance, the local    football fraternity enthusiastically looked forward to the juniors for a taste of success. It made sense because our youngsters have consistently   performed   in    various age group   competitions with   considerable   success   for the most part. The   youth teams have had quite a few success stories over the years. That said, however, there have been let-ups   in their performance lately, and the road to success has gotten bumpy as it can get.    Every   time   Nepal   competes   in   an age group championship it   triggers   hope and high expectations.   It was not different this time also. The team management and players   seemed overly confidence   of a good result. Most   home

Nepali Colts fly high in Ireland

Good    bye    Ireland.   See    you    Australia next year. This    is    the     success story of Nepal’s   Under- 19 cricketers in the World Cup    qualifiers    that     wrapped up in Ireland recently.   At    a     time     when     there is so much    gloom and doom in    Nepali    sports, our young    cricketers    have proven that all is not lost. That     is one    heck     of     an accomplishment    and     at least keeps     our     sporting dreams alive. Our     young     colts triumph was compelling and powerful. In    the    ten team competition with 12 points they finished a commendable second    behind Scotland. They concluded the event    with seven impressive victories and two defeats. The loss to Canada     by     a     solitary run eventually proved the spoiler for us.   The    setback    against the    North American    opposition    was    a    pure case of    lethargy and    recklessness.   In contrast        against a formidable     Scottish     side     we

Nepal's struggle in international football continues

The national    football    team    of    Nepal    mediocre    World     Cup     qualifier     run     finally     ended, following a    hard fought 1-1 draw against Jordan in Kathmandu recently. After being blown away by the Jordanians in the   first   leg,   Nepal   did make   a tremendous fight back to hold   the mighty   opponent   to   a draw   much   to the delight of the packed stadium who braved the heavy   downpour. The team deserves      a round of applause    for     their    fighting spirit and positive attitude despite the massive     setback    in     the     first leg. The matter of truth is     with      the right kind of climate, management and    infrastructure     the    talent     we     have     can     rise     to the occasion and deliver the goods. The big question is, will     or can     it ever happen?   I say this because    we    have waited far too long and there are no indications     yet things are improving.   The        second leg     outcome    did
