Team Nepal on the rise

The national football team of Nepal not only  lived up to its top billing but also cornered glory at the expense of Macau in the final of the inaugural AFC Solidarity Cup in Malaysia. Indeed a spectacularly riveting success story that has captivated the imagination  of sports enthusiasts across the country. I congratulate the boys and the coaching staff for the momentous  accomplishment.I take my hats off to you.You refused to give up and succeeded  in spite of some shortcomings. No question , it was a well deserved triumph  stemmed from a concerted effort, hard work, commitment and passion. With the first championship under his belt, Japanese Coach Koji Gyotoku could not have been more happy and asked for more. For now , at least, he can breathe a sigh of relief. It is fair to say that Coach Gyotoku  and his assistants did all they could to prepare the team  for the Malaysian challenge despite problems, issues  facing Nepali football. They have done a   good job i

Nepal must go for the kill against Macau

The national football team of  Nepal  stands  on the cusp of  greatness once again. They are within striking distance  of another  major  trophy. Should they lift the AFC Solidarity Cup in Malaysia on Tuesday,  it would be  quite  an achievement. They face one last hurdle   in the form of   Macau in their quest for the ultimate. From my standpoint ,as things stand, I am very optimistic about Nepal ‘s chances of   winning. They are well positioned   for title run, and it is very doable. So far so good for Coach Koji Gyotoku   boys the way the tournament has panned   out as projected . They got   off to a sedate start and   managed   to pick up steam   with each game.   The job, however,   remains unfinished , and   it makes   it imperative they   finish off   on a high note as they head into their final game. There is no bigger disappointment   falling at the last   hurdle . They must display, will, commitment and hunger to win,   which matters so much to the team and f

In anticipation of Nepal victory over Laos

With two matches   to go in the AFC Solidarity Cup, Nepal   looks poised for another strong campaign.  There is plenty of optimism in the air. The big question is whether they can sign off the tournament on a high note. It would be    a well-deserved accomplishment if Team Nepal were to emerge victorious. I don’t know     about you or what you think. But my gut tells me that they     have a     realistic chance    at capturing the silverware. Perhaps I am being overly optimistic, but I can sense it. No one disputes the fact that they are within the striking distance of winning the competition. I hope I am right about this. Having said that, I     concede the fact that nothing can be taken for granted when it comes to predicting sports outcome. I almost forgot the game is played in ground not on paper. Everybody knows that it is all about turning in match winning performances and taking the     game a notch above to the next level. The outfit that does the best in g

Nepal has everything to lose against Brunei

Contrary to expectations, in a match riddled with fouls Nepal had to fight off a tenacious, physical Timor in a goalless draw in the AFC Solidarity Cup in Malaysia. Nepal took the field against a relatively weak Timor with high expectations. Fans saw a certain victory, but their hopes did not materialize at the end of 90 minutes action under wet, soggy condition. Truth be told, I was somewhat disappointed with the result. I reckon others also felt the same way. Overall, it was not the best of games to watch from the fans’ perspective. I can tell you one person who was far from pleased with the team’s performance was none other than the Japanese Head Coach    Koji Gyotoku. I     do not blame him. If I were in his shoes I would have had to digest a bitter disappointment, as well. That being said, he    could be partially blamed.   Perhaps he could have done a better job    in important areas like       team selection and playing strategy. Just     a thought. It is u
