CIAA must thoroughly investigate Ganesh Thapa and ANFA

I know many of you are   vexed   of reading   criticisms   of   President of All Nepal Football Association Ganesh Thapa.  I   am one of the few   who has spent   a great deal of   time criticizing him. Let me remind you, in   as  much  I was his staunchest supporter in the late 90s , I am his staunchest critic today, especially  on his bad governance , undemocratic  dictatorial leadership. Understand me; I   do   not   criticize   Mr. Thapa   for the sake of criticizing. Or    I have to or I have an aversion to him. How can I   refrain from   not criticizing him, knowing   he   fully deserves   for his dubious bureaucratic actions.    Can you possibly imagine   what is going to   happen if Mr.  Thapa  is immune to criticism.  He is a person without checks and balances. As a result, he is so far out of control. Everything has its limit. After all these years, he continues  his arrogant, corrupt, self- serving  and high-handed ways. And he refuses to acknowledge a

Germany asserts supremacy on world football

Curtains come down on the   planet’s   greatest quadrennial sporting spectacle, the FIFA World Cup   in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with Germany emerging victorious and asserting its supremacy. Everyone agrees that Germany was the best team in the tournament and   fully deserved the game’s biggest and most prestigious trophy. The Germans   displayed class, finesse, cohesion, physical and mental toughness, coupled with a rock solid will to win. At the end of the day, their endeavor   paid rich dividends and made them stamp their authority   on world football. They   played like true   champions   from   start   to   finish, never losing their momentum, focus and rhythm. They   stuck   to their game plan, combining caution, strong defensive and mid-field play, counter attacks throughout, and more important, they did not make the mistake of undermining opponents. In the semi-final against Brazil they demonstrated that they are more than just a defensive team.  And in

Is ANFA President Ganesh Thapa above the law ?

President of All Nepal Football Association Ganesh   Thapa   is   in the news once again. He   has not changed one  bit and   continues   to repeat the same aggressive, arrogant and defiant attitude. Despite corruption charges surrounding him, he   has maintained his innocence and acts like nothing ever happened. He has given absolutely no sign of easing verbal tirade against critics, detractors and refuses to   tone down his flimsy rhetoric. His  comparison of Nepal with Argentina was so hilarious   to hear. It defied all logics and made no sense.  The poor guy even does not know that qualifying to the World Cup in itself is a   big   accomplishment. As such, his hopeless and absurd analogy is a   clear sign   of desperation. He made himself the object of ridicule.  He is   a person willing to do anything to quash opposition and hang on to power. I wonder what Mr.  Thapa   has to say   about Afghanistan’s   success   in   South Asian sports. The war torn co

Young Magar’s challenging new innings in Belgium

Small town football sensational Bimal Gharti Magar has been making waves and headlines in recent days. Sport enthusiasts and media alike are euphoric and in awe of   his   achievement. The one year contract Magar signed with Belgium’s leading club RSC Anderlecht has captivated the imagination of the entire nation. Since then the Young Turk has been bombarded with accolades and adulations from all quarters as expected. This is no small accomplishment, not by any stretch of the imagination, especially taking into account his modest background and the sorry state of Nepal football. He deserves every bit of praise that has come his way. The youngster will play for the Belgian   club’s under-19 team. We should all   be proud of him and   marvel at what he has accomplished. Now that the contract has been inked, he has become the first ever Nepali to represent a European club. The recognition   showered on Magar’s potential by the Belgian club   means a lot to him and Nepal

Indonesian friendly game was a mistake

Yet another lackluster performance and defeat for the national team of Nepal in a friendly against Indonesia.  I am not   surprised, and it should not surprise anyone. In fact, the result   was well anticipated and has brought more agony, frustration and disillusionment to fans in particular. Ironically, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) largely remains unaffected because they are too busy pushing their own self serving agendas. This was the fourth exhibition match Team Nepal played since its unsuccessful appearance in the last SAFF Championship in Kathmandu. The latest defeat was the fourth in a row. Prior to this they played against India, Yemen and Philippines. Undoubtedly, friendly matches are important, necessary and should   be arranged whenever possible. It provides players the much needed exposure, and coaches are rendered valuable opportunity to work on various   aspect   of   the team dynamics   and   assess   individual and team   performance.
