Nepal has chance to create history against the West Indies
The men’s national cricket team of Nepal is gearing up to take on the West Indies in the important Unity Twenty20 Cup International cricket series taking place on a neutral venue.
The three match series is the first of its kind between the two countries and gets underway on September 27th in Sharjah,United Arab Emirates.
The series is of great significance as it provides players the much needed exposure to play against the formidable opposition who used to be one of the dominant forces in international cricket for a long period of time.
This is yet another big opportunity for players to take full advantage of the series to make improvements in their performance.
They must bear in mind that it is a chance to work and rectify their game, especially technical flaws. They have to develop a resilient mindset, stay focused and committed to undertake the right approach to fully benefit from the series.
Once again the team’s captaincy is in the hands of Rohit Paudel. There are a few inclusion and exclusion from the squad that toured Australia recently.
The team is a blend of experienced and promising upcoming players. Given the number of batters and bowlers selected for the team, the coach has plenty of options to pick players for the playing eleven. Additionally, he has the luxury to rotate players if needed. Overall, there is depth in both batting and bowling.
The players making a comeback are Sundeep Jora and Aadil Alam.
It may be recalled that Alam was charged for spot fixing during the 2022/2023 Nepal T20 league and banned from playing in national and international competitions. He was cleared of the charges and the national selectors picked him for the United Arab Emirates tour based on his batting strength. He last represented the country in 2022 against Kenya in the T20 international series.
On the other hand, Jora earned a place in the national team, following his strong batting performance for Nepal A against Assam in the T20 series recently.
Team Nepal is in full strength and must go into the series with a winning mentality and keep their confidence high.
The team’s ultimate goal should be to make history by winning the series.I strongly feel it is doable but they will need to perform to their ability and be at the top of their game to make it happen. They have to be consistent, and there is virtually no room for sloppy performance.
The series provides Team Nepal valuable match practice before they depart for Oman to play in the decisive Asia Pacific T20 World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
Speaking of the West Indies, we have witnessed their dramatic debacle in global cricket over the years.Such has been their downfall that they have been reduced to minnows status, which is unimaginable.
Given their recent performances in all formats of the game, it wouldn't be an understatement to say that they are a struggling lot desperately seeking redemption.
For the upcoming series against Nepal they have included a good number of new faces in the team and rested a handful of regular players.
Despite changes they are still a dangerous and highly competitive side and should not be underestimated at any cost.
As long as Team Nepal can put the pieces together and peak their performance, they stand a pretty good chance to emerge victorious in the series.
