Nepal fall short in Women’s Under-19 World Cup

  The women’s Under-19 national cricket  team of Nepal exited the ICC Twenty20 World Cup cricket championship in Malaysia,following three successive defeats. Despite their best efforts they went down to Bangladesh,Scotland and Australia in the  league cum knockout stage. They lost  rather convincingly to Bangladesh and Australia.Their best performance was against Scotland.They came tantalizingly close to register their first win,but they agonizingly fell short by a wicket at the end. Nepal did break the losing streak by getting the better of hosts  Malaysia in the 4th place playoff game and ended the tournament on a winning note. They put on an impressive performance to win the duel by seven wickets.After restricting the opposition to a paltry total of 45 runs in 16.5 overs,they cruised to victory in 11 overs for the loss of three overs. Nepal’s first international cricket  championship of  2025  begins with the  ICC Women’s Under-19 Twenty20 World Cup cricket  tournament in Malaysia. This is the second edition of the competition,featuring 16 teams from around the world and gets underway from January 18th. The sixteen participating teams have been divided into four groups.Nepal is in a relatively formidable group D alongside Australia,Bangladesh and Scotland.The top three teams from each group advances to the Super Six League stage. The inaugural edition  held in South Africa was won by India.They defeated England in the final. Team Nepal,led by  skipper and all-rounder Puja Mahato  is  making its debut in the World  Cup. Nepal football fails to make headway in 2024

With 2024 behind us,it is time to look back and reflect on how  the last twelve months unfolded for Nepal’s  football. Like almost every year,I take this opportunity to encapsulate,evaluate and highlight the  lows and highs of the past year . Overall,All Nepal Football Association (ANFA)governance, football development,national football teams performances and results left much to be desired. Despite everything,on the domestic front, football’s popularity soared further  in the country.There was a significant  increase in the number of men,women, boys and girls playing the sport. We witnessed a dramatic surge in football tournaments,catering to all levels,ages, and both male and female  across all geographical regions from Mechi to Mahakali.It was largely possible due to the active involvement of the private sector.
