After a prolonged spell of doubts, uncertainty and speculations, after all Nepal gets to host the much- anticipated ICC World Cricket League championship Nepal VS Namibia series in Kathmandu. There was great public hue and cry, following cricket world governing body’s decision to move the venue from Nepal to India. ICC took the decision after making a determination    that Cricket Nepal Association (CAN) was woefully unprepared for the series. Infuriated by CAN’s ineptness and incompetence, disillusioned and frustrated cricket aficionados took to streets in protest. They had no choice but display their unmistakable ire towards CAN that has been a total disaster and virtually brought cricket to its knees. Japanese Koji Gyotoku is the latest addition to the long list of foreign coaches to be associated with the national football team of Nepal In the last six years, he is the fourth foreigner to be hired as head coach of the national team by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). There has been a parade of departing foreign coaches, one after another.   Someone like me who follows Nepali football, this does not surprise me at all. Cloud of uncertainty looms large over the future of Nepali cricket. Things are moving in the wrong direction much to everyone’s consternation and dismay. I know I may sound very pessimistic, but we must accept the current state of affairs now. Just when you thought things were gradually getting better, and then you realize that it’s not so, you are filled with concern and sheer frustration. So, finally the ice has been broken, and broken for good. The long wait is over. The Under-23 national football team of Nepal ended the   twenty-three years drought at the South Asian Federation Games in Guwahati, India. Hats Off to Coach Raju Shakaya and his boys for the fantastic result and restoring pride to Nepal football. Congratulations! We are all so proud of you. You have made the entire country proud. Undeniably, the grand success has renewed hopes that football can awaken from its decades long slumber. Hopefully, this marks the beginning of a new era for Nepali football and bodes well for the future.
