Team Nepal must live to their full potential in the Netherlands tri-series

Currently the men’s national cricket team of Nepal is in the Netherlands gearing up for the crucial  Men’s ICC  World Cup League 2  tri- series in the Netherlands starting on  Tuesday,July 21.

They take on  the hosts Netherlands and Namibia.They play two matches each against both opponents.

With four qualifying spots at stake for the  championship round,the tri-series holds critical importance for all teams.

Team Nepal has entered the tri-series with momentum on their side. Most importantly, they have been performing consistently, putting on winning performances and are  in good form lately.

They put themselves back in contention for  one of the four   final  qualifying spots, following  their excellent performance in the two home tri-series against Oman, United Arab  Emirates, Scotland and the United States.

They ended both series with 6 wins and 2 defeats. Having earned  12 vital points they vaulted to 5th place from 7th in table standings.Although they are tied with Canada on points (24),they occupy the fifth place on a better net run rate.

Prior  flying to the Netherlands for the tri-series,  Head coach Stuart Law’s boys featured in the 2026 Men’s Asian Games Qualifier held in Singapore.They performed superbly and won all  their matches convincingly to win the competition and qualify  for the Asian Games taking place later this year in Japan.

In preparation for the tri-series in the Netherlands they  have continued their winning streak by wrapping up both friendly matches against the Jersey team.

They open the Netherlands triangular series against  seventh placed Namibia on Tuesday, July 21st.

Having repositioned themselves back in contention for the  final round  qualification spot, they have to keep winning to bolster their position in the table standings. 

A solid  and winning performance is bound to  consolidate their chances of advancing to the next round.

Keeping in view of  Nepal’s recent form they are heavily favored to prevail over Namibia.

That said, nothing can be taken for granted in sports.There is always room for upsets and most  unlikely outcomes.

They must not get over confident, distracted,and underestimate opponents . At no cost and at any stage of the game they can afford to invite mediocrity in their performance .

Additionally,they have to play to  their ability,rise to the occasion, make the most out of the opportunities to put themselves in an unassailable position.

As long as  Team  Nepal is razor focused, disciplined, resilient,confident,able to put together a solid collective effort,coupled with  individual brilliance and a high degree of consistent performance on all fronts of the game ,they will stand a realistic chance of triumphing over the oppositions.

The real test will be against the formidable home side Netherlands,currently in third place in the table standings.

The team’s batting  has improved significantly, however , it is  imperative for batters to maintain  their consistency and post competitive  scores to keep the team in the game.

Skipper Rohit Paudel spearheads a  highly experienced and talented squad who have been playing together for many years, representing the country in countless international tournaments across the globe.

Opening batter Kushal  Bhurtel  and all rounder Dipendra Singh Airee are under the limelight for their  outstanding performances lately and are expected to play a pivotal role in the upcoming matches.  

The  form and contribution of skipper Rohit  Paudel,Aarif Sheikh, Aasif  Sheikh, Binod Bhandari , Bhim Sarki  and Ishan Pandey will  be key to the team’s middle batting  order and success.

 

A lot is expected from  the young emerging star Arjun Kumal known for his  exceptional batting ability  and skills.

On the bowling front, the team will  heavily  rely on leg break spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, Nepal's highest wicket taker in both One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals  to  give his best performance and deliver the result. He has the support of highly experienced  Karan KC, Sompal Kami and Lalit Rajbhansi and talented  Gulshan  Jha,  Nandan Yadav .

As expectations are high, batters and bowlers have  to give their very  best and live up to their full potential to put their team in the winning seat.
