Nepal Women’s Under-19 cricket team aiming World Cup glory




Nepal’s first international cricket  championship of  2025  begins with the  ICC Women’s Under-19 Twenty20 World Cup cricket  tournament in Malaysia.


This is the second edition of the competition,featuring 16 teams from around the world and gets underway from January 18th.


The sixteen participating teams have been divided into four groups.Nepal is in a relatively formidable group D alongside Australia,Bangladesh and Scotland.The top three teams from each group advances to the Super Six League stage.


The inaugural edition  held in South Africa was won by India.They defeated England in the final.


Team Nepal,led by  skipper and all-rounder Puja Mahato  is  making its debut in the World  Cup. Despite  facing  very challenging  circumstances,they  made history by qualifying for the prestigious  tournament for the first time ever. 


It’s indeed a great achievement,and  they  deserve every bit of  our applause,support and encouragement.  


The  crop of players selected for the tournament consists of players in their mid to late teens. 


The team’s batting strength revolves around Puja Mahato, Sana Praveen and Sony Pakhrin,while Rachana  Kumari  Chaudhary, Riya  Sharma,and Puja Mahato form  the frontline bowlers.


It is a huge opportunity for the enthusiastic young cricketers who are keenly anticipating the tournament to showcase their talents in the sport’s biggest platform.


Given the magnitude of the competition and the chance to make a meaningful impact,players must fully commit to delivering their wholehearted effort to make their mark and achieve the best possible outcome. 


As a matter of fact,they are in a win-win situation regardless of the end result.Keep in mind,they are still on a steep learning curve.


It is imperative that they make the most of the opportunity and  benefit immensely. The competitive exposure at this level is invaluable experience for players.


By making it to the World Cup,the young cricketers have made the country proud and boosted the profile of Nepal cricket globally.Additionally,they will be an inspiration to innumerable number of young aspiring athletes seeking professional  career in the country.


Currently the team is  in Malaysia gearing up for the tournament.They played their first warm up match against the West Indies and narrowly lost by 9 runs. In the second practice match they went down to the United States by 5 wickets.


Against the West Indies they batted fairly well to post 100,but they could only score  58 against the United States.


The batting performance  must improve if they want to give themselves a fighting chance in the tournament.


Never mind the outcome of the matches,the talented Nepali outfit showed plenty of promise,and without a doubt have the potential for future success.


Nepal’s World Cup campaign officially starts with the opener against Bangladesh on January 18th.


More than the opponents,they must  stay focused,positive,determined,confident, and motivated throughout the competition.Also they ought to learn from past mistakes and not repeat it.


Admittedly,it won’t be easy,but when all is said and done, it will come down to  their overall performance to make a lasting impression.


This will be possible through consistent teamwork and individual brilliance.The players must  rise to the occasion and perform to their full potential.
