ANFA making footballers the sacrifical lamb

President of All Nepal Football Association Ganesh Thapa   continues to face mounting criticism over his involvement in the alleged corruption scandal that is gaining ground. So far he has   barefacedly denied the accusations   and remains defiant as ever. Voices of   dissent   against Mr.  Ganesh Thapa   is   growing by the day.  Former national coach Krishna Thapa is the latest to join the long list of dissenting individuals.  Mr. Thapa, a long time ally of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) boss resigned as ANFA technical director recently. While he was away in Brazil for the World Cup, the corruption scandal   was revisited by the local   media in a pretty big way, following the British newspapers new revelations. The amount of coverage   was   amazing and unexpected. Also a section of the media sympathetic to Mr. Thapa mustered the c...

Time for Mr.Ganesh Thapa to go

Things got so   bad   for President of All Nepal Football Association   Ganesh Thapa on the home turf that   he was forced to cut short his visit to Brazil. He  had to rush back to Nepal   to douse the fire threatening to burn down his   domain. Upon touching down at Tribhuvan International airport, he wasted no time   to hold a press conference with the sole purpose   to quell the   national and international media firestorm surrounding corruption charges against him. All in all, the   interaction between Mr. Thapa and the press was insignificant and a big farce. It was   another   futile attempt to prove his innocence and suppress the truth on his part. Once again he shamelessly defended   himself vigorously   and called it  trumped up charges. He had nothing new to say. Whatever he said, we have heard ...

Government must investigate ANFA boss Ganesh Thapa

The explosive investigative reporting done by "The   Sunday Times", the British Newspaper   based on hundreds of millions of e-mails, accounts and other documents on the corruption scam surrounding banned and disgraced former AFC  President Mohammed Bin Hammam of Qatar is a bombshell. Reports suggest there are more revelations   to come. More importantly, the latest revelations lends credence to the corruption charges against President of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Ganesh Thapa, which he vehemently denies. His  name figures in the long list of people bribed by Mr. Hammam.  The report reveals Mr. Thapa   received   115,000 pounds from two separate Kemco ( a firm owned by Mr. Hammam ) accounts in 2010 for his vote to support Qatar’s bid to host the 2022 World Cup. Remember, two years ago, Associated Press   had reported that Mr. Thapa  received illegal cash payment of $100, 00...

Coach Stefanowski must take more assertive position

Polish born American Jack Stefanowski is back on the saddle as head coach of the national football team of Nepal. This time he is sans assistant coach Richard Orlowski. It may be recalled that the American Polish duo had taken   charge of Team Nepal just before the last SAFF Championship held in Kathmandu. After they completed their   one year contract, All   Nepal   Football Association (ANFA) decided not   to retain the two. Since then the national squad was without a   coach. Former international Raju Shakya   was in charge     for the two recent friendlies against Yemen and Philippines. There were speculations   that he would be approached to manage the national team but it did not materialize. In my opinion, it   would have been worthwhile to try him. However, not many people knew   ANFA ...
