The long wait is over,  justice has been  served in the  corruption scandal involving  former President of All Nepal Football Association  Ganesh Thapa. Finally the   world football governing body   did the right thing ; punish Mr. Thapa for   his purported   headline   grabbing wrongdoings   as   Chief of the football body   for more than two decades. Mr. Thapa has been suspended   for 10 years from all football related activities and   fined   20,000 Swiss   Franc, putting an end to his dictatorial and despotic rule. The national   football team of Nepal is gingerly gearing up for the South Asian Federation Football Championship scheduled next month in India amid chaos, doubt and uncertainty. The reality is that Team Nepal faces a herculean task ahead of them, although, the final squad for the tournament is yet to be announced. Unquestionably, it is going to be a bumpy ride for whoever makes the team. The big question is, will players be emotionally, mentally and physically prepared to play their best? The team’s morale has taken a big hit. Players, coaches’ enthusiasm and zest    for the game have dwindled to a low point. By all indications, attempts are being made to   toss   the disgraceful, unfortunate match-fixing scandal that hit Nepal football behind the back burner by the All Nepal Football Association and some unseen forces. Since the arrest of four players and a coach for their alleged involvement in the match- fixing scam, things have somewhat slowed down when it comes to making more arrests by the police. Not much progress has been made between then and now in terms of further breakthrough in the scandal. The well-respected and high- profile SSP Sarbendra Khanal, spearheading the investigation had assured the public that he would do whatever it takes to arrest all those found guilty of match-fixing. Close on the heels of the match-fixing scam, Nepal football has been hit by yet another shameful and disgraceful age fraud case. The Nepal Under-16 team, which successfully competed at the recently concluded Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Championship Qualifiers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, has been disqualified from the final round of the competition scheduled in India next year. The AFC has nullified the results and disqualified Team Nepal for fielding over-aged player/players. Also the team has been slapped with a hefty $14,500 fine.
