I am not a bit surprised that Cricket Association of Nepal is at its worst. Given the current circumstances surrounding Nepal cricket, things have gone from bad to worse. The unnecessary controversy over skipper of the national team Mr. Paras Khadkha is beyond my comprehension. The entire episode is nothing but an act of sheer desperation on the part of the cricket body. I find it laughable, lamentable, pitiable and condemnable. It is totally irrelevant and makes no sense to me, whatsoever. The back and forth in the latest war of words between Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and Mr. Khadkha over the captaincy of Team Nepal and disciplinary action is unwarranted, least to say. When CAN should have been focused in addressing and dealing with more pressing issues, it has shamelessly, needlessly preferred to pick a futile fight with Mr. Khadkha. If the corrupt, incompetent wise men at CAN seriously believe that removing Khadkha from the captaincy or taking disciplin...

After a    prolonged wait, the frustrated, disappointed Nepali football community finally    had something to rejoice and celebrate.   They are     buoyed by string of positive results achieved by the youth teams in recent weeks. The Under-19’s momentous and well-deserved SAFF Championship triumph at home, followed by Under-16’s qualification to the AFC Under - 16 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan proves that all is not lost despite the sorry state of Nepali football. The successes of the teams have brought some much needed relief and optimism to all. I, however, fear it offers only temporary solace.   I got it right, unfortunately. A recent Reuters, international news agency, damning review of football projects built with FIFA funds under its “Goal Programme” in Nepal underscores the ongoing problem of power of abuse and systemic corruption in All Nepal Football Association. This is just one small segment of Mr. Ganesh Thapa, President of All Nepal Football Association’s (ANFA) fiefdom. This explains everything, Mr. Thapa’s    leadership incompetence, failed governance and involvement in wide spread corruption. This is nothing new. In fact, maladministration, unaccountability and corruption have long been the hallmarks of ANFA. The success achieved by Nepal in the inaugural Under-19 South Asian Federation Football Championship in Kathmandu is of great significance. The championship victory over India was sweet and well deserved. The Young Gunners deserve every bit of accolade for the fantastic result. The youngsters showed poise, conviction, positive approach, and aggression, coupled with great teamwork throughout the competition. Going into the tourney, the home side was under enormous pressure to deliver the goods and perform to their potential. In addition, they had to meet the expectations of a very expectant, frustrated partisan crowd. Much to everyone’s relief and delight, Coach Bal Gopal Maharjhan’s boys not only rose to the occasion but also raised the level of their performance. The euphoria of triumph has triggered renewed hope in the hearts of sport enthusiasts. Fans and media alike were literally swept away with the team’s success. How long will the joy last?   ...
