Nepal Colts’ Quest for Glory

Image
2024 has been a busy year for the men’s and women’s national cricket teams of Nepal so far. They have been globe-trotting, playing in various international tournaments with some degree of success. Our cricketers are slowly but surely making their presence felt in international cricket. Although they have lots of catching up to do with the top nations of the game, nevertheless, the progress they are making is heartening and encouraging. We have a promising young generation of men and women cricketers who are ready and determined to prove themselves on the world stage and bring glory to the country. The women’s under-19 squad was under the spotlight for their stellar performance in the recently concluded ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates. Displaying confidence, consistency, skill, tenacity, and collective effort, they dominated the proceedings and emerged as clear winners. They ended the tournament with an impressive 5 wins and 1 defeat.

It’s yet another heartbreaking defeat for Nepal

Once again, it was a tale of  so near yet so far for the  women’s national team of Nepal as they had to endure a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the final of  the Women’s South Asian Federation Football Championship in Kathmandu.   Dasharath stadium jam-packed with partisan supporters who were hoping to see Nepal win their maiden championship title were left dejected, disconsolate and in somber mood, following their team’s 1-2 defeat. Having entered the final riding a wave of high expectations after  getting the better of India in the last four, apparently, the sting of defeat was agonizing, devastating and difficult for the home team to digest. For the umpteenth time  they found themselves in familiar territory by finishing second best for  a record  sixth time, prolonging their title quest further. Analyzing and assessing Team Nepal’s overall performance, they failed to put together a winning performance. They lacked the killer instinct when they needed it t

Against Bangladesh Nepal must turn cycle of failure to cycle of success

In a chaotic  semi final clash  hosts Nepal came from behind to prevail over India in the  women’s South Asian Federation  Football Championship in Kathmandu. Despite being reduced to ten players and down by a goal, the home team made a dramatic comeback to win in the penalty shootout. The match took an ugly turn as confusion reigned in the second half  after the referee disallowed  the  equalizer to the hosts. The referee’s decision was hotly disputed by the head coach and players who vehemently claimed it legitimate. They stood their ground firm  and   refused  to  continue playing. As a result, the match was delayed for a prolonged period of time. At one point,it looked as though Nepal would abandon the match. It took quite a bit of persuasion to get them to agree to continue playing. They did the right thing by getting back on the pitch to finish the highly charged match. The decision paid off in the end eventually. When the game finally resumed, ace  striker Sabitra Bha

Batting key to Nepal’s success against United States

Following a  winless  ICC World Cup Cricket League 3 triangular series against Canada and Oman in Canada recently, the men’s national cricket team of Nepal is all set  for another  critical series against the United States of America and Scotland in the United States. Nepal’s hugely disappointing and docile performance caught everyone by  complete surprise. They struggled  badly and looked a pale shadow of their former selves. Once more, poor batting led to the team’s downfall. The top order failed miserably repeatedly, thus resulting in the debacle. Compared to the Twenty20 format ,batters' performance has been abysmal in the 50 -overs format. To put it bluntly, it is a tale of batting slumps. They are going through a rough patch of  form. If batters  struggle  is anything  to go by,they are up against a big challenge. The situation demands the right approach, sound technique, consistency, application,  patience, discipline, confidence and commitment, coupled with a big match t
