  Another fresh year is here.I am taking this opportunity to look back  at the key events of Nepal cricket on the field and off,which  took center stage in the last twelve months.  No end to CAN’s laid back approach  The Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) responsible for the all round development of cricket in the country continues to be plagued by weak leadership, mismanagement,radical politicalization, incompetency, internal  wrangling and  negative publicity.   Furthermore,the cricket  body  lacks  long- term-vision,transparency,integrity, accountability,professionalism, meaningful long-term strategies,democratic and ethical management,and organizational success. As a result,the face of Nepal cricket has remained more or less static  in terms of  development. The apex cricketing body has  failed to focus on developing  grassroots cricket and infrastructure, coupled  with investing in youth development...

As the curtain comes down on the year 2023,I  look back over the  past twelve months  to reflect  on Nepal football’s achievements and failures.  All in all,it was yet another dismal and unproductive year for Nepal football on and off the field. The national teams in all age groups struggled,underperformed and failed to deliver results. No  end to ANFA’s apathy  Speaking of all round development nothing much changed when it came to bolstering infrastructure,facilities, junior and youth grassroots football. Besides,little attention was given to make the 48 district football  associations  affiliated to ANFA spread across the seven provinces financially viable, effective and responsible  for the promotion and development of football. All eyes will be upon the men’s  under-19 national cricket team of Nepal when they clash against Pakistan in the  ACC Under- 19 Asia Cup  championship in the United Arab Emirates Friday. The venue for the competition was changed from Pakistan to the United Arab Emirates. Eight teams are in the fray. Nepal alongside Pakistan,India and Afghanistan are in Group A, while Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Japan and the United Arab Emirates(UAE). The championship  will be played in a league cum knock out format with the top two teams from each group  advancing to the last four.   The Nepali outfit find themselves  in  a very intriguing and challenging group.
