Power brokers and their cronies responsbile for the mess in Nepali cricket

Defying odds, overcoming mediocrity and withstanding pressure, Nepal gave their   supporters plenty to cheer about, with a thrilling 19 run victory over the overwhelming favorites the Netherlands in the second match of the ICC World League Championship in the Netherlands. Nepal made a spectacular comeback, being down in the dumps. After having     watched    the team    surrender meekly to the Dutch in the opener, the stunning victory was unexpected and caught everyone by complete surprise, including me. Nobody gave them a chance to win, especially after the embarrassing performance in the Sunday showdown. However, they proved everyone wrong.   Skipper Paras Khadhka, the batting bone    of the Nepali team, struck back with a vengeance to lead his side to an improbable win over the host nation. A brilliant all-round display   (84 runs and 2 wickets) from the captain deservedly fetched him the man of the match award. Likewise, important knocks from Gyanendra Malla

Poor batting bane of Nepal batting

A poor batting performance   against the Netherlands 'A' in the solitary warm -up match that was called off due to bad weather was a spot of bother for Team Nepal. The writing was on the wall. Call it patchy or brittle or awful batting, it was Nepal’s biggest concern. It was hard to envisage how they could prevail over the Netherlands in the crucial   ICC Cricket World League Championship matches. The bottom line, they had to bat extremely well to be in contention   in the two match series. Saturday, with decent weather in Amsterdam, it was match day for Nepal. The stakes were high enough.  Fans in the country keenly anticipated the clash. There were great expectations in the air regardless of the dicey situation. A defeat was the last thing they wanted. It was very obvious that Nepal needed a big batting performance to stand any chance against the Dutch side. Contrary to expectation, unfortunately, it did not transpire much to everyone's chagrin. W

Nepal must get their act together to overcome Netherlands

The national cricket team of Nepal is set to lock horns with the Netherlands in the ICC World Cricket League Championship in Amstelveen, Netherlands. Fresh off the English tour, the clash against the Dutch side is critically important for Nepal. They have a formidable opposition who are undefeated in the competition and determined to keep their slate clean. Furthermore, they have to deal with the home advantage factor heavily favoring the Netherlands also. Without an iota of doubt, the challenge is huge for a team that is desperately trying to   gain ground and stay afloat in the competition.   A win is a must for Nepal to keep their qualification dreams alive. Everyone agrees that they cannot afford to lose matches of this magnitude. It may, otherwise, cut their chance of qualifying. The final outcome of the two match series will have huge implications for Nepal in terms of progress to the 2018 ICC World Cup Qualifier. The top four teams in the championship q

Protection of Nepali football, welfare of players’ paramount

Unsurprisingly there is trouble brewing on the horizon in All   Nepal Football Association, once again. This is nothing new under the sun for a long time football watcher like me. I anticipated it. It was only a matter of time before this happened. Since the reinstatement of suspended All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) executives, nothing positive has changed in the governance style and attitude of officials running the show. Acting President of ANFA Narendra Shrestha continues to govern with the same failed policies of corrupt, disgraced ANFA President Ganesh Thapa. Mr. Shrestha and his faction have literally shown no interest, whatsoever, to work in tandem with the reinstated officials. They have ridiculously distanced themselves from the rebel group, isolating and denying them from exercising their rights to become part of the administration's day-to-day affairs. There appears to be a clear violation of the statute, indeed. The matter of the fact is t
